Frequently Asked Questions

Is finger-style guitar difficult to learn?2023-04-06T10:35:37+00:00

Finger-style guitar isn’t too difficult to learn, but it does require persistence and dedication.
The main goal is to develop strong muscle memory and coordination for the right hand, while the left hand needs to be good enough to pick up some basic chords.
Natural skills are important but as mentioned before, commitment and practice are what you need most.

Should I learn to strum or finger-style first?2023-04-06T10:36:14+00:00

Although strumming is considered to be much easier than finger-style, it is also true that learning to strum early can lead to bad playing habits if not learned correctly, particularly in regards to left hand technique.

Ideally, the best learning path is: Classical Guitar, Strumming and Finger-style.

What is the difference between finger-style and classical guitar technique?2023-04-06T10:36:36+00:00

The differences between finger-style and classical guitar technique are not confined to a technical level only
For starters, the tool is really different.
While the classical guitar and the metal-string guitar may look quite similar, not only are the shape and construction technique not the same, but the strings and bridge are also completely different.
Classical guitars have wide, thick necks with nylon strings, while acoustic guitars have thinner, narrower necks and metal strings.>
The two techniques instead share the use of the fingers to pluck the strings but, while the classical technique, deriving from centuries of tradition, is extremely precise and accurate, the fingerstyle technique is much more recent and less rigid.

What is the difference between metal strings and nylon strings?2023-04-06T10:36:58+00:00

Metal strings are ideal, in general, for strumming chords with a pick or for modern fingerstyle arrangements, offering a much brighter EQ than nylon strings, with cutting highs and punchy lows.
The tension is quite high, on average around 72 kg, and the diameter of the strings is rather small on the high E and relatively large on the low E.
The nylon strings are perfect for classical music and for any type of composition that requires an extremely balanced equalization throughout the range of high, medium and low notes.
The tension is much less than metal strings, around 36 kg, and the diameter is fairly uniform from high E to low E.
Less painful to press on the keyboard for a beginner and much easier to pluck with fingers or nails.
