It is quite common that playing metal string guitar is easier than nylon string due to a lower action and narrow neck.
It is also absolutely true that learning proper technique on a nylon string is much easier and doable.
Mastering the nylon string technique will ensure great control on the metal string as well, while the reverse is not true.
